Psychedelic Futuristic Space Station Concepts from Artists of the 70′s

Back in the 1970′s NASA did something a touch unusual. They commissioned a series of artists to create their visions of space stations of the future. These space station designs are far from the reality of today, but have inspired designs that have shown up in movies and on TV during the past four decades. Their futuristic designs combine the wild psychedelic feel of the 70′s with some solid foundations in space technology. The designs depict colony sized stations similar to the feel of Babylon 5. As you explore these concepts, keep in mind that NASA and private companies are rapidly working on missions to Mars, mining space asteroids, and advanced space drive systems. Are these designs out of this world, or do they still foretell a future this is rapidly approaching?
