You’ll be counting down the minutes till dinnertime with this dish! The delicate osso buco and rich infusion of flavors melt in your tongue. This is the perfect comfort dinner when served with a creamy cauli-mash. Even better, the food cooks itself while you’re working on it.
Medium (15 m + 4 h)
Preheat the oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit (150 degrees Celsius).
In a large ovenproof saucepan, heat the oil and brown the veal shanks in batches on both sides.
Remove to a platter while you finish cooking the onion, celery, garlic, and herbs.
Add the beef stock, apple cider vinegar, and tomato paste to the Osso Bucco in the pot. Cook for 4 hours in the oven, covered. Season to taste with salt if necessary.
*What should I do if I can’t get veal shanks?
If veal shanks aren’t readily available, any slow-cooking beef, such as cheeks, chuck, or prime rib, can suffice. Estimate 8 ounces per serving if boneless.
Make use of the slow cooker.
Alternatively, sear the osso bucco and then add it to your slow cooker with the rest of the ingredients and simmer on low for 8 hours.
